Our Mission
The Center provides supportive and educational services to promote the cognitive, emotional, and physical growth of women so that they may become active and productive members of their communities and society-at-large.
Through workshops, lectures, cultural presentations, brief intervention sessions, and group meetings, our mission is to educate the LaGuardia student body about important issues that impact the lives of women of all races, nationalities, ages, abilities, and orientation.
The Center serves as both a learning environment – a place where women can find out and learn more about women, the history of women, the roles women have played in shaping our culture, and the impact of oppressive forces in the lives of diverse women. We are also a service center where referrals, brief intervention sessions, and support are available on a range of issues including relationship abuse and domestic violence.
We seek to fulfill our mission through the responsible use of the resources made available to us by those who believe in our work. We have a responsibility to keep the students informed about opportunities to progress along their career paths, and to provide avenues through which the students can hopefully make a positive difference in the lives of others. The Student Center for Women can be a place that connects women of every culture, time, orientation, and the physically challenged. We want to provide social, political, and leadership development for women at LaGuardia Community College.
The Student Center for Women is focused on national and international trends and issues affecting women. The Center provides support for women by addressing their particular concerns. It functions as a conduit of information. In collaboration with Student Development, the Center endeavors to connect persons of every culture, race, gender, age, and sexual orientation, as well as the physically challenged, to provide social, political and leadership development.
