Creative Arts
The creative energy, diversity and cultural allure of New York City make
it a world capital for the arts.
Against this backdrop, LaGuardia’s distinguished faculty provides an enriching education and
a supportive environment for aspiring performers, artists, photographers, directors,
writers and producers to learn and practice their craft.
LaGuardia offers 6 degree programs in the Creative Arts:
Commercial Photography (a 1-year certificate program is also available)
Digital Photography
Fine Art Photography
Fine Arts
Media Studies
Theater and Communication In addition, the Performing Arts area includes courses in
Dance, Music and Theater.
Internships play an important
role in all programs of study. Students benefit from our New York City location and are able to gain “hands-on” experience with top local arts organizations. Classes are offered for students at
all levels of experience. As a LaGuardia student, you can also take a course at another CUNY college if we don’t offer it.
Transfer
Careers in the creative arts may require, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree.
LaGuardia graduates who have planned their program carefully can usually
transfer to a 4-year college as juniors. Colleges that you’re considering for transfer may have different requirements, so
you should meet regularly with a LaGuardia academic advisor and Transfer Services, starting as early as possible.
LaGuardia has transfer articulation agreements with many of New York City’s top 4-year colleges, including the
School of Visual Arts and the Pratt Institute.
Careers
13 of New York City’s most popular careers in the arts are listed here. We encourage you to
research the wide range of jobs by using the library, Internet and other resources. Jobs in this industry can be highly competitive. Some students
increase their marketability by developing more than one specialty or by additionally studying a related field (e.g. business management, public relations, marketing).
