INSTRUCTORS' FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR BB6 ePORTFOLIO

A student ID cannot be found (when enrolling a new student in a course)

Before an ID is requested for a new student, instructors should try the following: Search by User ID, using the first or the last name of the student, this is to get fewer results. If the student changed his Last Name recently, try the old Last Name. If the student account does not exist in the system request an account at:

There are several students with the same first and last name, which student is enrolled in my class?

All student accounts have been uploaded into the system with their Student ID, which is their complete Social Security Number. Check in the school roster for the student ID or Social Security Number, then compare it to the student that has that same Social Security in the Blackboard System. This can be done by clicking in the 'Properties' button, next to the students listing, whenever you are searching for students to add to your course:

Step1. Search for student

Step2.
Check Student ID

My course is not available

Make a course available by going to the course Control Panel, Course Option Bar, Course Settings link, Course Availability link. Make a Course Available by selecting Yes.

Enrolled Students cannot login to Blackboard

Reset a student password by going to the course Control Panel, User Management Tab, List / Modify Users link. Search for the user, click the properties link located next to the student name, and change the password.

Instructor cannot login to Blackboard
If a user still cannot login please contact the Account Administrator Michael Johnson at michaelj@lagcc.cuny.edu, or contact Blackboard Support at BlackboardSupport@lagcc.cuny.edu to get a new password.

Students are enrolled in a course and the course is available but the students cannot see the course

Go to the course Control Panel, User Management Tab, List / Modify Users link. List all users. Make sure the ‘Role’ status of the users enrolled in your course is 'student'. If not, click next to the property of each user and change their Role to student.

What about Script errors?

Reload / refresh your page. Use your browser to go back and try or submit again. Errors are just a result of low system resources or high usage of the system and will clear up on its own as users login in and log out of Blackboard.

Users with Blackboard accounts can self enroll into Blackboard courses

An instructor can setup its course to allow Blackboard users to self enroll. Go to your course Control Panel, Course Options Tab, Course Settings link, Enrollment Options link. Select Self-Enrollment. Choose Require Access code to enroll. Set an Access Code. (This is to avoid other users to enroll in your course) Instruct the students to search for your course. A self enroll button will appear next to your course. Your students will be able to self enroll by submitting the correct Access Code.

Security Settings (Setting Course Duration)

Go to your course Control Panel, Course Options Tab, Course Settings link, Enrollment Options link. Select Course Duration. Choose dates, usually one day before classes start and one day after classes are finished. This will limit access after the course is over.

Adding Teacher Assistants and Additional Instructors

Go to your course Control Panel, User Management Tab, Add users. First Add the new user. Then go to List / Modify Users link, and modify the ‘Role’ of the user, by clicking on the property link next to the username.

Anticipating unforeseen circumstances. Backing up Blackboard courses.

Go to the course Control Panel, Course Options Tab, Course Utilities link, Archive Course Link. Select the content areas to back up and submit. Download the course in the zip format and save it in a safe place. A good practice is to backup a course every time a major change has been made. If the instructor uses the electronic roster, this should also be backed up regularly. An electronic roster is backed up as a text file that can be opened in Excel.
